Sarah Staff is Head of SaferGems, the UK intelligence initiative set up to tackle crime in the retail jewellery, pawnbroker, fine arts and antiques trade. Her team collate details of jewellery crime including attacks and incidents, and share intelligence so that the sector can better protect itself. Sarah served for 30 years with the Metropolitan Police, spending 18 years tackling serious and organised crime. Joining the Flying Squad, Sarah worked on complex operations as a surveillance firearms officer and investigator, rising to Detective Chief Inspector. In this role she ran covert proactive units investigating the importation and supply of firearms and controlled drugs into the UK. She also led the Organised Vehicle Crime Unit tackling organised vehicle crime in London. Before leaving the police, Sarah led the Flying Squad in South London - only the second female Detective Chief Inspector in the 100 years of the Flying Squad to hold this role.
