Mike Akiki has built a distinguished career over more than three decades and is recognized as a pioneer of fancy colour diamond craftsmanship in Antwerp. When he entered the diamond industry in 1989, Antwerp's expertise focused heavily on white diamonds. In 1991–1992, Akiki introduced the techniques, craftsmanship, and philosophy required to polish natural coloured diamonds—a field that demands mastery far beyond standard cutting. He personally trained Antwerp’s first generation of fancy colour polishers, teaching them how to interpret tone, saturation, and crystal behaviour. His contribution helped shape Antwerp’s future as a centre for coloured diamonds. Akiki later founded Antwerp Cut, specialising in rare natural coloured diamonds. Today, he is regarded as both a technical master and a cultural contributor to Antwerp’s diamond legacy.
