Dr Luis Novo is Head of the Phytotechnologies Centre at Scotland’s Rural College (SRUC). His work focuses on phytotechnologies - including phytoremediation and phytomining - plant metal hyperaccumulation, bioindication, and the biocircular economy. He leads several national and international research collaborations. Luis’s innovative research on phytomining is uncovering new opportunities - from its use as a top-up technology or alternative farming system to the recovery of nanoparticles and novel applications in the agritech sector. He is Associate Editor for Environmental Geochemistry and Health, serves on the editorial board of the International Journal of Phytoremediation, and is the 2025 IOM3 Materials World Medal winner.
