Kele Mafole

Chairperson of the Working Group on the Definition of a ‘Conflict Diamond’, De Beers Group
Kele Mafole is the International Relations Lead at De Beers Group, where she drives global policy advocacy and strategic initiatives to uphold the integrity and reputation of natural diamonds and the diamond industry. In this role, she works at the intersection of industry, government, and civil society to foster collaborative solutions that promote responsible sourcing, ethical business practices and sustainable development. In 2023, Kele was appointed Chairperson of the Kimberley Process Review of the Definition of ‘Conflict Diamonds’, leading a global, multi-stakeholder effort to modernize and strengthen ethical standards and policy frameworks across the diamond value chain. Kele’s career in international diplomacy began at the South African Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where she represented South Africa in multilateral forums, engaging on issues of global governance, sustainable development, and human rights within the United Nations system. With over 15 years of experience in public policy and multilateral engagement, she brings deep expertise in navigating complex policy and geopolitical landscapes. She is an active member of the World Diamond Council’s Kimberley Process Taskforce and serves on CIBJO’s Jewellery Industry Supply Chain Nomenclature Committee, contributing to the development of transparent and responsible industry standards.
